106m seized Lürssen superyacht Amadea sold at auction

According to Business Insider, the 106.1-metre Lürssen motor yacht Amadea has been sold at auction, following her seizure by U.S. authorities in Fiji in June 2022.

A spokesperson for the United States Marshals Service confirmed to Business Insider that the US government had auctioned off the yacht. Amadea was first seized as part of sanctions enforcement against Russian oligarchs linked to President Vladimir Putin and was sold following a sealed-bid auction administered by National Maritime Services of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The sale took place on 10 September in accordance with a forfeiture order issued by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York (Case 1:23-cv-09304). Fraser Yachts acted as promotional agent for the auction. The new owner and the yacht's price have not been disclosed.

Following her seizure in 2022, a protracted legal battle took place, with a U.S. judge ruling earlier this year that Eduard Khudainatov, the former chief of Russian state oil and gas company Rosneft, could not plausibly claim ownership of the yacht, as he had acted as a "straw owner" for sanctioned Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov.

During this time, the ownership of Amadea was transferred to the US Government, with federal prosecutors in Manhattan telling the U.S. District Judge Dale Ho in 2024 that Amadea had an "excessive" $600,000 monthly average maintenance bill and urged an auction.

Amadea had previously been flying the USA flag before the auction, but new images obtained by SuperYacht Times this week show the yacht flying a new flag, which is believed to be the Civil Ensign of the Cayman Islands.

Delivered in 2017 by Lürssen to Passenger Yacht Code, Amadea features exterior design by Espen Øino and interiors by Zuretti Interior Design. With a gross tonnage of 4,402, she accommodates up to 16 guests across eight staterooms, supported by a crew of 36. Amenities include an infinity pool, a certified helipad, a private owner's spa, a separate guest spa and two elevators.

Powered by twin MTU engines, the yacht has a top speed of 20 knots, a cruising speed of 13 knots and a range of 8,000 nautical miles.

According to court documents, it is estimated that Amadea was was worth around $230 million. AIS signal shows that the yacht is still in San Diego, California, USA.
